Tata Will Make iPhones in India: Tata Group, a conglomerate, in India has officially declared its plans to manufacture iPhones in India for both the international markets. The announcement was made by Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Union Minister of State for Electronics and Technology through media on October 27th 2023.

Wistron was one of the manufacturers of iPhones in India. After acquiring Wistrons plant Tata will make iPhones in India. This development makes Tata Group the first Indian company to venture into iPhone production.

Tata’s “Made in India” iPhones

IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar confirmed the news on his official Twitter handle and extended his congratulations to Tata Group for their acquisition. 

Furthermore the IT Minister expressed appreciation towards Apple for establishing a supply chain in India with Indian companies leading the way while also expressing gratitude towards Wistron for their valuable contributions.

According to Chandrasekhar, the company plans to begin producing iPhones in India in the next two to three years. This is intended for both the international and Indian markets. For those unaware, the Tata Group has been in negotiations to purchase the Karnataka-based Wistron plant for quite some time.

Tata to Make iPhones in India, Reduce Reliance on China

The other two Indian companies that produce iPhones are Foxconn and Pegatron. It’s important to keep in mind that “Made in India” iPhones are merely assembled within the nation, not created from the scratch.

The significant agreements that Tata and Wistron will sign after obtaining the required approvals are made public. By taking this action, India can lessen its reliance on goods assembled in China and strengthen the “Made in India” campaign.

We just have to wait for further developments in this deal and we can get to know Tata’s plan to manufacture iPhones in India and we also have to see if other companies would come up to join this race.
